Yoshi Steiner
I am an MA animation student from south London.
My past experience includes images for Kate Tempest's vinyl cover 'Brand New Ancients.' As well as work for Milka and Pret a Manger.
Most recently, I was runner up for the Nespresso award 2019 and my film was shown at the BAFTA theatre in Piccadilly. I now work running and building escape rooms which provides opportunity to play with animatronics and silicone.
I create stop-motion claymations using a variety of puppets and objects in surreal and humorous situations. Juxtaposing the mundane with the ‘disturbing’ as a critique of current issues such as over-consumption and consumerism, my short films contain dramatic yet amusing twists with underlying messages.
My greatest inspiration comes from Jan Svankmajer, Jim Henson and Adam Elliot.
Animation is a strong tool in our modern age. It has been used for propaganda, it has taught generations basic skills such as maths and literacy, it has created entire fashion industries such as Harajuku, it has revolutionised the world of gaming and it was used to plan out strategic advances in the war.
I believe that animators have power to change opinion and spread messages through stories and I am proud to be one of them.
