Uki Otake
Uki Otake’s intricate paintings centre on the interpretation and re-creation of images from the past.
She likes to play on the confusion between personal experience and collective memory, assembling drawings, photographs and found objects that have become corrupted and manipulated by time and distance into scenes that are both strikingly new and yet somehow familiar.
Her paintings are intimate and personal. She uses images she has collected to create a sense of place and emotions of longings, here and there.
She studied her BA in Fine Art at University of East London and MFA in Fine Art Media at Slade School of Fine Art. Currently she lives and works in East London.
