Spring… the season of new beginnings.
We find ourselves unwittingly daydreaming of blue skies and flowerbeds as the warm sun coaxes us out of hibernation.
Even as adults, our inner child’s first instinct is to go out and play.
Artist William Alexander has been doing just that as he embarks on a new adventure all the way to Venice!
Ah Venice… close your eyes and picture yourself … meandering through the canals with a glass of vino, the warm sun setting as your gondola passes under the Bridge of Sighs…
Ever wondered what it would be like to take a ride in gondola?
Perhaps you have before, but certainly not a gondola like this one!
William Alexander, a specialist in cardboard vehicles (you might have heard of his famous ice cream van in New York!) fulfils his dream of building a cardboard gondola and taking it all the way to the floating city of Venice.
Wait… a gondola made out of cardboard? Yes! That’s exactly it!
The detail and engineering that has gone into this creation is nothing short of spectacular. And it’s entirely hand-made!
The project, curated by Miguel Mallol, sprouted on 17th of March 2017.
This will be the first manned cardboard Gondola ride available in Venice.
On 10th of May at 6pm, William’s new cardboard vehicle will be afloat on the San Trovaso canal during the Venice Biennial. He will then work as a gondolier and perhaps even take a passenger or two on-board!
The gondola will then be donated to the city of Venice, its final resting place.
Support this fantastic trip by helping to transport the gondola to Venice!
Help us by backing this amazing project and be a part of the journey!
We’ve got until Wednesday, 26th April 2017 to help make this happen.
Allow yourself to dream…
…when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore…
