Poems

What’s the best way of getting your message across when it comes to art?
In today’s fast-paced digital world it can be tough to stand out from the crowd.
Well, if the mountain won’t come to Anthony C and Karen M, then this dynamic duo won’t hesitate to put on a pair of hiking boots to get to it!
Collaborating artists Anthony C and Karen M find inspiration in the urban environment that surrounds them in order to raise awareness about political issues facing the inner city.
From recycled materials, discarded items, to spray paint, the city is their canvas as they take to the street to communicate their views on today’s ever-controversial society.
Yet, as the seasons change, so does their art. The power of the elements takes its toll, but that is exactly what Anthony C and Karen M love about it: “the art takes on a life of its own”.
Jean Cocteau once said: “The worst tragedy for a poet is to be admired through being misunderstood.” I believe the same can be said about street art, yet by keeping an open mind, it most certainly has its place among us.
Here are three short poems they’ve sent us:
#1
Brazil 1977
Just us and
the elevator was a vacuum
air sucked to six pressing walls
the door parted
you emerged and I was thrown against the back wall.
#2
Untitled
Both houses, and the Irishman's
near the playground. Balls went in our yards. Strong hitters went in Angel's.
They all lived near everything.
#3
Dec. 1978
As we awoke light permeated the frail chiffon curtain making delicate ellipses.
He touched my face and I touched his,
to remember. We spoke of New York and
LA as the sun became strong we became stronger, sure of ourselves and the room filled with soft rose tints
and the smell of skin.
