Born in 1974, Lindsay Pickett’s main practice involves painting with oils on canvas, linen and board. He tends to start with a study of a composition idea, usually in the form of a basic pencil drawing first, then he takes it further as a small watercolour painting as a final idea and then develops it more as the finished oil painting.
For finding ideas as inspiration, Lindsay also uses photographs to create a visual reality that can be convincing at times and especially if he wants to get a realistic likeness of something figurative. It has also been good for him that it has taught him to use observational skills a lot.
A lot of his current practice is something that he has mainly taught himself and he also has used ideas that have stemmed from dreams. He finds that producing his ideas can only work if the photographs or images lend itself to the idea of something Surreal.
