Eliza Rocker
Elizabeth Chapman (working under the name Eliza Rocker Art, also known as e.R.a) is an emerging contemporary artist based in the North West. Concentrating on portraiture and the depiction of modern 'icons', e.R.a's work focuses on colour and shape; she seeks to make an impact through bold images set against colour-field backgrounds.
In her work, e.R.a draws inspiration from various movements; from Soviet propaganda posters to post-war advertising and Pop Art of the '60s / '70s to name but a few.
She is particularly interested in the ways in which traditional photographic images can be simplified and recreated by hand to produce a striking final effect.
Almost always using a limited range of colours within each painting (usually four), Eliza aims to mentally "deconstruct" images of popular figures and re-build them in a graphic style that is commercially appealing.
