Bryan Rawlings
Bryan Rawlings attended Somerset College of Art followed by Stoke-on-Trent College of Art, where he studied painting under Arthur Berry and Campbell Bruce at Burslem Art School, graduating in 1971 with a First Class BA Honours degree in ceramic sculpture.
After a brief period teaching art at Eltham College in London, he started a career in commercial sculpture which still continues, carrying out many large and prestigious private and public commissions.
His recent painting work approaches portraiture with looseness and the introduction of disruptive elements to the point where the facial likeness is almost crumbling out of (or into) existence, exploiting the brain's inclination to recognise faces to find a point of tension between painterly marks and illusion.
